Naked In The Vines with Nepenthe

Nepenthe Launches Bold ‘Naked in the Vines’ Campaign to Showcase Sustainability Leadership.

24 Mar 2025

A Sustainable Future for Wine Packaging

At Nepenthe, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainability in the wine industry. As a proud B Corp Certified winery and an accredited member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, we continuously seek innovative ways to reduce our environmental impact while crafting exceptional cool-climate wines from the Adelaide Hills.

On March 22nd, 2025, we will unveil our latest sustainability initiative: Naked in the Vines. This ground-breaking campaign is how we’re introducing our fully recyclable, tearaway bottle caps - an industry-first step toward a more sustainable future. By eliminating unnecessary waste, we are making it easier than ever for wine lovers to recycle correctly and contribute to a greener planet. Learn more about Nepenthe's sustainable commitments here

Revolutionising Wine Packaging with Recyclable Closures

Recycling wine bottles has long been a challenge, as traditional aluminium closures often end up in landfill due to inefficient separation from glass. To change this, we have partnered with Interpack to introduce the capR closure, a revolutionary tearaway capsule that allows the aluminium sleeve to be completely removed and properly sorted for recycling.

Why is this so important? Aluminium is infinitely recyclable, with 75% of all aluminium ever produced still in use today (Source: Indisposable). By simplifying the recycling process, we are ensuring that more aluminium is repurposed rather than wasted - helping to create a more circular economy for wine packaging.

Empowering Consumers to Make Greener Choices

Sustainability isn’t just about the packaging we create - it’s also about the choices we empower you to make. Research shows that:

  • 74% of Australians believe recycling is one of the most impactful ways to help the environment (Source: APCO Consumer Insights Report 2023).
  • Clear recycling labels significantly increase correct disposal rates, preventing recyclable materials from ending up in landfill (Source: APCO Consumer Insights Report 2023).

With Naked in the Vines, we are making sustainability effortless. Our tearaway capsule ensures you can recycle with confidence, knowing that every small action contributes to a larger environmental impact.

A Playful Yet Powerful Sustainability Message

At Nepenthe, we believe sustainability should be both meaningful and engaging. That’s why Naked in the Vines takes a playful yet sophisticated approach to sustainability storytelling.

Filmed at our Cellar Door in the Adelaide Hills, our campaign video draws an unexpected parallel between traditional wine packaging waste and unnecessary constraints - showing how our tearaway capsule allows for a ‘naked’ and fully recyclable end-of-life process.

Launching during B Corp Month in March, this initiative reinforces our dedication to ethical sourcing, responsible business practices, and environmental leadership—while proving that sustainability can be both effective and exciting.

How to Recycle Aluminium Wine Closures Properly

To maximise the impact of aluminium recycling, follow these best practices:

Remove the Tearaway Capsule – Separate the aluminium sleeve from your Nepenthe bottle.

Scrunch Small Aluminium Pieces Together – Combine foil seals, wrappers, and other small aluminium items into a ball (at least tennis ball-sized) so they can be properly detected in recycling facilities.

Collect Small Caps in an Aluminium Can – Place wine bottle caps, kombucha lids, and soft drink tops inside an aluminium can before recycling to ensure they are processed correctly.
