Sustainability

At Nepenthe Wines, sustainability is at the core of everything we do—from vineyard to bottle.

We're proud to be among the few Australian wineries certified by both B Corp and Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA), reflecting our dedication to social and environmental responsibility.

B Corp Certification: A Commitment to Positive Change

Our B Corp certification means that Nepenthe meets rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

The B Corp certification evaluates our impact in five key areas: environment, workers, community, customers, and governance. The a rigorous third-party assessment involved companywide input to fact find, gather information and review and update policy and process.

With only three wineries in Australia holding this prestigious certification, we are proud to be part of a movement that uses business as a force for good. By choosing Nepenthe, you're supporting a company that prioritises sustainability across its entire value chain.

Sustainable Vineyards for Future Generations

We believe great wine starts in the vineyard. That's why all Nepenthe vineyards are Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certified. From vintage 2024 onwards, every bottle will proudly feature the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia Trustmark on the bottle.

This certification ensures our wines reflect a commitment to sustainable land management, water conservation, and biodiversity. This national program is more than just a certification—it's a collaborative effort aimed at securing a sustainable future for the wine industry.

We’re continually innovating in our vineyards, focusing on water conservation, soil health, and biodiversity to sequester carbon and significantly reduce our brand's emission footprint.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

In 2023, we completed a comprehensive Life Cycle Analysis to assess our impact, starting with our packaging. We’ve made significant strides to ensure that all our packaging is 100% recyclable. Our ongoing efforts include:

  • Tearaway Capsules: Innovation is key to change that's why we have replaced our traditional screwcaps with removeable caps. This change means all packaging on our still wines is 100% recyclable at kerbside.
  •

  • Recycled Labels: We've made deliberate choices in how we print our labels, with most of our bottles now featuring labels made from 100% recycled content. For our premium ranges, such as APEX, we use a high-quality label stock utilising a byproduct of cotton manufacturing that would otherwise be discarded.
  •

  • Lightweight Glass: Glass is one of our biggest emissions sources. We have reduced the weight of our Altitude and Elevation bottles positively decreasing emissions associated with production and transport.
  •

  • Cartons: The cartons that safely ship, store and protect our wines are made from 100% recycled quality cardboard.

Sustainability at Our Cellar Door

Our recently refurbished Cellar Door, reopened in 2023, embodies our commitment to sustainable design.

We worked with local Adelaide designers Black Rabbit and builders Templeton to bring our home to life. Using locally sourced building materials including Adelaide Hills sourced hardwood from Littlehampton Sawmill for the deck and interiors, Sandstone for interior and exterior feature walls is Oyster Limestone source from Limestone Australia.

We weaved sustainable practices throughout the build, including solar panels to power our Cellar Door and electronic car charging stations for customers.
